Radar monitoring solutions and applications at IDS GeoRadar
IDS GeoRadar provides products and solutions for geophysical, mining, civil engineering and security applications. Founded in 1980 as part of IDS Ingegneria dei Sistemi in Pisa, Italy, the company is now part of Hexagon group.
Through a continuous commitment to research & development, IDS GeoRadar provides professionals with innovative products using state-of-the-art technologies and novel solutions. Over the years, the company has pioneered radar technologies for civil applications as breakthrough products in this domain. In particular, the first commercial Ground-Based Radar Interferometer (GBRI) with linear scan capabilities, the IBIS product line, was launched in 2007. This ground-breaking product range was unique to the field as it was the first use of interferometric technology for dynamic and static monitoring of structures and earth environments.
In the last decade GBRI has gained an increasing interest as a deformation measurement and monitoring tool, and currently is a well-established technology, usually exploited by geophysicists, engineers and geotechnicians. Thanks to its high sensitivity to small deformations, its long operative range and its imaging capability, GBRI is complementary to many other existing deformation monitoring techniques.
The purpose of this lecture is to offer an overview of ground-based radar monitoring, as well as the corresponding development activities carried out by IDS GeoRadar.
Alberto Michelini
Alberto Michelini has thirteen years of experience in ground-based radar monitoring and is currently the responsible of data science activities at IDS GeoRadar.
During his experience he was involved in the development of innovative monitoring systems such as: electronically scanned GB-SAR, circularly scanned GB-SAR and real-time detection Doppler radar.
In recent years his research has focused more on the usage of monitoring data, in particular on failure forecasting, data-fusion and artificial intelligence techniques.
