INCOMING STUDENT

The Department of Earth Sciences, University of Pisa, welcomes applications from foreign students and offers the following exchange programmes:

  • Erasmus+ Incoming, a funding programme to support incoming students from EU Member States, EU Economic Area States and the Non-EU States North Macedonia, Republic of Türkiye and Republic of Serbia. The programme offers Mobility for Studies and Mobility for Traineeship -both including theses
  • Visiting Student, a programme for students (undergrads, grads, and PhDs) enrolled at a foreign University to complete a study period or an internship at the Department of Earth Sciences
  • Free Mover, a programme dedicated to international students who do not participate in an exchange programme, such as Erasmus, but choose on their own initiative to attend courses at the University of Pisa by independently organizing their study period in Italy

  • Nomination

The Department of Earth Sciences, University of Pisa, welcomes applications from nominated students from Erasmus partner universities. You can find the list of current partners in the page Erasmus Partners. Please contact the International Office or exchange coordinator at your home university to find out if there is an agreement with the University of Pisa, and if you are eligible to apply.

Once you have been nominated by your home university, you will receive an email from us inviting you to activate your account and proceed with the application

Only nominated students will be able to access the application.

  • Course information

The University of Pisa applies the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

Exchange students are expected to enroll in ~30 ECTS credits per semester

Students can select courses from different Departments but the majority of the courses must be from a degree of the Department of Earth Sciences

We offer several courses and fieldtrips in English both at the Bachelor and Master's level. Also many of our courses at Master's level include a final fieldtrip. You can find the list of courses in English at the Department of Earth Sciences in the page Courses taught in English. You must fulfill the eligibility requirements for individual courses: check carefully the requirements listed in each course description.

The timetable of the courses will be available approximately one month before the beginning of the semester and it will be published here.

  • Language requirements

Good knowledge of English is necessary for courses taugh in English, reccomended B2 Level.

Good knowledge of Italian is necessary for courses taught in Italian, reccomended B1 Level.

  • Thesis/Traineeship

In order to do a thesis/traineeship at the Department of Earth Sciences, you need to find a supervisor amongst our staff members. The supervisor must email international@dst.unipi.it to confirm approval.

  • How to apply

Once you have been nominated by your home university, you will receive an email from us inviting you to activate your account and proceed with the application.

Register on the Alice portal to obtain the login credentials and complete the application. Choose your courses and fill out the Learning Agreement (LA) Before the mobility (available from the Erasmus Portal). The LA must be signed by the yourself, the exchange coordinator at your home university and sent to international@dst.unipi.it for approval by our exchange coordinator, Carolina Pagli. After approval, the LA will be sent back to you and you will upload it together whit your ID on the Erasmus Portal at the page https://erasmusmobility.unipi.it/erasmus/welcome/ under Incoming Students, Application Form Erasmus+.

BSc OUTGOING STUDENTS

POSSIBILITY OF ACQUIRING CFU ABROAD AS PART OF A THREE-YEAR THESIS.

There are three different access gates to funding for acquiring credits abroad during the three-year Bachelor's Degree in Geological Sciences at the University of Pisa.

1- UNIVERSITY CALLFOR MOBILITY CONTRIBUTIONS
(Traineeship and Thesis)
You can earn 12 credits abroad using a scholarship offered by the University of Pisa that allows you to spend 2-3 months in a foreign laboratory.
As part of the Bachelor's degree program, you can prepare a 6-credit thesis + 3-credit internship (including the thesis writing portion) and request recognition of 3 credits as free credits.
The scholarship is around €1,100.
The call for applications is usually published in June each year.
The simplest procedure is to contact a professor of the Bachelor's degree program who is interested in establishing contact with a laboratory at a European university/research institution and proposes a three-year thesis within the chosen facility.

2- ERASMUS+ TRAINEESHIP CALL (INTERNSHIP ABROAD)
Minimum 2-month stay in the European institutionMinimum 2-month stay in the European institutionNo bilateral agreement required.Scholarship of €400/month.The call for applications is usually published in March each year.Also in this case, the two months can be used to develop a topic for a bachelor's thesis within a foreign laboratory, which will recognize the internship and the laboratory work for the thesis.

3- ERASMUS+ STUDY MOBILITY CALL (ACQUISITION OF CFU ABROAD)
To access the program, you must have earned 45 out of 60 credits at the end of the first year.To access the program, you must have earned 45 out of 60 credits at the end of the first year.A bilateral agreement is required.A scholarship of €400/month is available.You must earn at least 6 credits.Minimum period: 3 months, maximum 12 months.The program is usually published in March each year.It can be used to attend one or two courses at a European university affiliated with UNIPI, which can be recognized as free credits of the student's choosing.

Visiting fellow programme

The University of Pisa offers a programme, Visiting Fellow, to fund post-doc and faculty members from foreign institutions to visit our department and conduct collaborative research with our staff members for at least one month.
