Incoming Students

The Department of Earth Sciences, University of Pisa, welcomes applications from foreign students and offers the following exchange programmes:

  • Erasmus+ Incoming, a programme dedicated to students from EU Member States, EU Economic Area States and the Non-EU States North Macedonia, Republic of Türkiye and Republic of Serbia. The programme offers Mobility for Studies and Mobility for Traineeship -both including theses
  • Exchange student, a programme for international students enrolled at a foreign University that does not participate in an exchange programme, such as Erasmus+, but with which the University of Pisa has a bilateral agreement
  • Visiting Student, a programme for international students enrolled at a foreign University to complete a study period or an internship at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Pisa

  • Nomination

The Department of Earth Sciences, University of Pisa, welcomes applications from nominated students from Erasmus partner Universities. You can find the list of our current partners under Erasmus PartnersPlease contact the International Office or the ERAMSUS+ Coordinator at your home University to find out if there is an agreement with the University of Pisa and if you are eligible to apply.

Once you have been nominated by your home University, you will receive an email from us with all the information to proceed with the application

Only nominated students will be able to access the application.

  • Course information

The University of Pisa applies the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

Exchange students are expected to enroll in ~30 ECTS credits per semester

We offer several courses in English both at the Bachelor and Master's level. Also many of our courses at Master's level include a final fieldtrip. You can find the list of courses in English at the Department of Earth Sciences under Courses taught in English. Incoming student must provide their programme of studies (Learning Agreement) through the EWP OLA online system. Students can select courses offered by different Departments but the majority of the courses (> 50%) must be from a degree of the Department of Earth Sciences (MSc Geological Sciences, MSc Applied and Exploraiotn Geophyscis, MSc Environement and Climate Science, BA Geology). Also, yuo must fulfill the eligibility requirements for individual courses, please check carefully the requirements in each course description.

The academic calendar will be available here. The timetable of the courses will be available approximately one month before the beginning of each semester and it will be published here.

  • Language requirements

Good knowledge of English is necessary for courses taugh in English, reccomended B2 Level.

Good knowledge of Italian is necessary for courses taught in Italian, reccomended B1 Level.

  • Thesis/Traineeship

In order to do a thesis/traineeship at the Department of Earth Sciences, you need to find a supervisor amongst our staff members. The supervisor must email international@dst.unipi.it to confirm approval.

  • How to apply

Once you have been nominated by your home university, you will receive an email from us inviting you to activate your account and proceed with the application.

Register on the Alice portal to obtain the login credentials and complete the application.
