profile tvanorio biggerDr. Vanorio is Assistant Professor in the Geophysics Department at Stanford University where she leads the Stanford Rock Physics Laboratory. Since 2010 she is visiting professor at University of Provence-Marseille, France. Tiziana received her BA with honors in Geology and a PhD in Geophysics and Volcanology from University of Naples, Federico II, Italy. After graduation, she was a CNR-NATO and a Marie Curie (EU) postdoctoral fellow respectively at Stanford University and Geosciences Azur - University of Nice, France where she focused her work on bridging rock physics and seismic tomography in geothermal and volcanic areas.Currently, the scientific interest of Tiziana’s group at Stanford University hinges on deciphering experimentally the seismic response to rock-fluid interactions and thermo-chemo-mechanical processes. Current applications of her group research include understanding the evolution of the elastic and transport properties of shales upon thermal maturation, carbonate rocks upon dissolution and de-carbonation, and volcanic rocks and concrete upon reactions involving calc-alumo-silicates. Tiziana is being recognized for her innovation as a scientist and an educator. She is building a virtual laboratory for professional training and teaching. The virtual lab reproduces in form and function the Stanford Rock Physics Laboratory through interactive, 3-D animated renderings of instruments that students can virtually assemble and operate. Tiziana is the 2014 recipient of the SPE Innovative Teaching Award, Society of Petroleum Engineering as well as the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. More about Dr.Tiziana Vanorio.
