Matteo Nigro is a Ph.D. student of the Earth Science Department at the University of Pisa. The Ph.D. research activity is mainly focused on the geomorphological, hydrogeological and geochemical responses of stream catchment to wildfire perturbation. The main goal of the project is to address such perturbations induced in the mountainous catchment of the Monte Piasno area (Calci and Vicopisano municipality, province of Pisa, Italy) by the 2018 and 2019 wildfires.
His university formation mainly focused on water related disciplines, such as hydrogeology, geochemistry, isotopic-geochemistry, chemistry of inorganic and organic pollutants. Moreover, he is also interested in GIS softwares, cartography and WebGIS application coding (Openlayer 6 coding online course completed in 2020). In 2020 he published a hiking and muontainbike map for the Colline Livornesi area (both on AvenzaMaps App. and with a dedicated WebGIS and Android application hosted on GitHub) and a hiking map of the Tigullio Ligure area (available on AvenzaMap App.). For passion, from 2019 he is a certified mountain bike guide.
B. Sc. in Geology at University of Pisa, 2017. Thesis concerning the evaluation of high arsenic level below an urban waste landfill.
M. Sc. in Geological Science and Technology at the University of Pisa, 2020. Thesis concerning the reconstruction of a conceptual model for two complex and partially contaminated (by acid mine drainages) karst aquifer systems located in the Apuan Alps (Tuscany, Italy). The geometrical structure, the geochemical and isotopic characteristics and the hydrodynamics and water circulation was analysed.
