Abstract:
Geological studies of Quaternary coastal deposits can provide useful information in recognizing the landscape evolution during periods of
sea-level variations. The Mediterranean is considered as a natural laboratory area to study the impact of the sea level changes; it has
been highly sensitive to climatic changes during its history. 
The study of Quaternary evolution is so vital in understanding the past geological and climatic events which in turn help to understand properly
the present-day climatic patterns, changes in land forms and land-sea relationship and, therefore, to predict future climate changes. 
Although Late Quaternary deposition along the North and South Mediterranean coasts was influenced by sea level fluctuations, however
they have divergent impact, most probably due to the different sub-regional climatic and environmental conditions. In the seminar, we
will show some examples from Sardinia and Alexandria as representatives to the Mediterranean.
